A deck takes the same kind of structural punishment as a small house — every joist hanger, every footing, every flashing detail matters. Brian over-builds the structure (wider footings, joists at 12″ or 16″ centers depending on span, proper ledger flashing) and uses fasteners rated for the climate. The result is a deck that does not need to be replaced in ten years.
